One click can help save rescued animals.

I know this has nothing to do with sports, but other than sports, animals mean a lot to me.

It is a constant struggle for "No kill" shelters to get support from the general public. In the tough economic times that we are in people see pets as a luxury they don't need. They simply dispose of their pets. It's a sad fact. Unfortunaely many of these shelters are packed to capacity, and many pets hve to be euthanized.

In my little attempt to help I just click on a link to this webiste. It doesn't cost anything, it just gives the websites hits, so that their sponsors will continue to fund them. I would ask the Big hearted CBS community to help, just by clicking on the site whenever you get a chance.

Every little bit helps!

Merry Christmas to all.

Why not hockey?

I was wondering why so many are disinterested in hockey. I just want to know why sports people don't watch hockey?

Is it becasue it has no major network coverage, including ESPN? Is it becuase you don't understand the rules of the game? Are you against fighting? Do you think it's just not a made for television sport?

Just doing a little research. Why don't you like hockey?

Would this solve the economic crisis? Or help?

On a normal week between my two personal vehicle I purchase about 35 gallons of gasoline every week. I would love to purchase less, but have quite a commute from my rural home. So at $3. 65 (average in Atl. as of 10/9/08) I will spend $125.75 a week on gas for both vehicles. Just over $500 a month for gas. Crazy! Why couldn't the government regulate the price of gas for a given amount of time, and subsidize that, instead of CEO's in the banking industry? We have seen how well that worked, AIG!

Anyway, if the price of gas could be subsidized to even take the price down to say $1.35 a gallon, then how much could we all save? I personally would save about $78 a week, or $312 a month. I am probably above average in my gas usage as compared to most people, but a saving of $312 a month would do me a world of good. I think this would also help many others too.

Forgive me iof this is wrong and maybe of some of you can correct me on this, but did the oil companies not make 600 billion in profits last quarter alone? How much would dropping the price of gas really hurt them?

I think this would allow for people to start driving on vacations again. Lower the cost of plane tickets. Maybe even allow for someone to somehing great like keep their electric or water turned on!

Thoughts?

Did you know? Yes NHL play does start tomorrow.

  • Sarah Palin vs Joe Biden
  • Ohio State vs Wisconsin
  • NASCAR at Talladega

Oh yeah, almost forgot, like most, the return of the most un-cared about sport in the United States! The National Hockey League opens play tomorrow with the Tampa Bay Lightning against the New York Rangers from Prague, Czech Republic.  Yet you wouldn't hardly know it according to most sports sites. There had been little talk of the NHL on any sports stations. There is still no big TV contract for the sport and it's a shame.

I am looking forward to watching hockey tomorrow. I can't wait to see how Barry Melrose handles the new look Tampa Bay Lightning this year. I want to see the play of the #1 pick in the NHL draft Steven Stamkos. I am hoping for a resurgence from the MVP line of Vinny Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and Vinny Prospal.

Just wondering if anyone else knew that the NHL actually started tomorrow.

Gasoline price gouging!

In an earlier blog I complained about non sports post on a Sportsline site. I just want to see if anyone on this site can answer this question?

Why is illegal for anyone to price gouge after a hurricane, yet with hurricane Ike looming just off the Texas coast, the price of gasoline has already increased dramatically. I understand that 30% of the production in the gulf was cut off for a matter of days, but if I were to charge someone an increased amount for a service after a hurricane, I could be reprimanded legally?

Doe this just provide an excuse for the oil companies to raise prices for a while? Will the three days or so of lost production critically impact their earnings?

Get your politics off my sports page!

I am not a Democrat, I am not a Republican, I am not Independent. I am what you call the "Lesser of two evil partys". I'm sure there are a lot of people who feel the same way. But do I need to know what you are. What your views are?

So the big new is that Vice Presedential candidate Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant. Do I really care. The only way this should show up on Sportline is if it was an unknown member of the Dallas Cowboys who did the deed! The only time we should hear the word Conservative on this site is when you are talking about the play calling of Tennessee's Phillip Fullmer because he has a quarterback who can't complete a pass to anyone wearing an orange jersey. The only time we should hear the word Liberal on this site is when you are describing the liberal amount of passing yards that the Cincinnati Bengals defense is going to give up this year. The only time Barack Obama's name should be mentioned on this site is when  Harvard has just handed Columbia a butt whuppin' in football. The only time we should hear John McCain on this site is when he was the asked to do the coin toss at the Army-Navy game, and was then seen in the skybox sipping 18 year old scotch and rooting on Army.

I don't care about your political views. Political views and opinions go hand in hand. Everybody has one, and everyone thinks everbody elses stinks. Is your views on the candidates going to sway me one way or the other, I should hope not. That would just make me a follower. To vote for someone based on someone elses views is ridiculous. I am tired of this political race. I am tired of the negativity that comes with a presedential campaign. All I ask is, take it somewhere else. I come here to read about sports. I don't care about your politics, world news, and all the other pointless, mindless dribble that some people come up with. What song are you listening too? Who's your babys daddy? etc.... Take it over to Fox or MSNBC, I'm sure they have plenty of server space to accomodate you!

Sports appreciation day

I wish the kids of today could have grown up when I did. There were no computers or video games to sit in front of all day. As kids we looked forward to weekends when we would grab our bats and gloves and meet all our friends at the ball field, which we walked about two miles to get to. We didn't have to worry about getting rides from our parents. We usually didn't have enough people to play a game, so games had to be made up. We would play games like Home Run Derby, 500, or if we had enough players, a real game. We did this all day. We didn't have to be home till the street lights came on, so why not play all day. We would emulate our favorite players of the era. Squatting at the plate like Pete Rose. Pitching with the reverse pivot off the mound like Luis Tiant. It was fun. Then when all the play was done, maybe we could get the Cincinnati Reds on one of the four local television stations. That is if we weren't too tired to actually get up and change the station. If it wasn't on tv, then the radio would come on, and I would listen till I fell asleep, rarely making it to the end of the game. Fortunately, there was a newspaper in the driveway the next morning. On the front page the Reds score would be posted at the top right of the page. I knew that if I saw that smiling face basball icon at the top of the paper, the news was good. The Reds had won! After eating a bowl of some sort of super sugar coated cereal, it was off to Scott's house down the street to see what time we were going to play that day.

Playing sports gave me a greater admiration for sports. The worst thing a kid could experience in my era was a rainy weekend. Of course then we would just have to think of something else to do. That was usually a game of some sort that we made up and usually played under the awning of my friends back porch.

A diiferent time, a different way. A different era of sports fan.
